In response to Trump’s tweet, Republican Richard N. Haass – President of the Council of Foreign Relations said that “This response from @realDonaldTrump to the situation in Hong Kong is truly inadequate. He should be calling on mainland authorities to meet all of their obligations associated with the 1997 handover, to act with restraint, and to enter into a dialogue with the residents of HK.”
Nancy Pelosi @SpeakerPelosi – Speaker of House of Representatives earlier declared that “The people of Hong Kong are trying to preserve the promise of One Country - Two Systems. If we don’t speak out for human rights in China because of commercial interests, we lose all moral authority to speak out elsewhere.”
Trump simply wondered that "Many are blaming me, and the United States, for the problems going on in Hong Kong. I can’t imagine why?"
