In Episode 1 of The Last Kingdom Season 5, approximately 10 years after the events of Season 4, Brida gathers loyal Danes to carry out revenge against Uhtred's two children.

Lord Uhtred is currently stationed at the Rumcofa outpost on the border between the Anglo-Saxons Kingdom of Mercia and the Danish Northumbia. Here he both performs border guard duties, mostly fighting against the raiders, and raises and trains Prince Aethelstan to become a mighty warrior.

Rumcofa enters the Festival of Blood Month (Month of Sacrifice, usually in November), in which the locals will organize many hunts and slaughter livestock both to sacrifice to the gods and to store food. On this occasion, Aethelflaed – now Queen of Mercia also visits Rumcofa, with the main purpose of meeting Uhtred and her nephew.

In Northumbia, Brida also makes sacrifices, but on man lives, at the choice of Brida's own daughter, who is declared as a seer, in the name of the gods. After the sacrifice, Brida sends soldiers to secretly capture Uhtred's son and cut off his penis.

Next, Brida directly attacks Sigtryggr's Jorvik (formerly Eoforwic, now York, England) and easily overpowers the king thanks to the internalization of Rognvaldr, Sigtryggr's brother.

The Scepter Aethelhelm hires assassins to kill the prince of Aethelstan in order to ensure that his grandson will later take the throne. However, his plan fails.
