In a plantation in Whitecloak, Eamon Valda burns an Aes Sedai on a pyre, cuts off her hand and gets the magic ring from her finger.
On the way running away from the Follocs, Moiraine asks a ferryman take them across a river. To prevent the Trollocs from following, Moiraine uses One Power to sink the ferry, accidentally killing the ferryman as he tries to return to save his son. This makes the young quartet especially Rand (Josha Stradowski) somewhat dissatisfied with and skeptical of Moiraine (Rosamund Pike).
During their journey, Egwene learns that she has the potential to become a channeller; Perrin encounters strange wolves; and the quartet all have terrifying dreams about the Dark One, and distrust and tension between Moiraine and the quartet just grow.
Moiraine becomes tired, exhausted, and unconscious from her injuries and draining a lot of the Power to help others. When the Trollocs catch up, Lan decide to hastily guide the group into the Dead City of Shadar Logoth to escape, despite knowing of the danger inside it.
During the night at Shadar Logoth, Mat finds a jeweled blade; soon the group is attacked and divided by Mashadar – an evil living in the city. The group is split and disoriented.
Nynaeve suddenly appears, threatens Lan Mandragoran (Daniel Henney) with her knife on this throat and asks him about the whereabouts of the Quartet.
