Suicide Squad 2 paves the way for the Peacemaker series on HBO 👦

You may or may not like The Suicide Squad 2's Peacemaker character very much because he is brutal to the bone: he killed Rick Flag and almost did the same to Ratcatcher 2. However, it's obvious that Director James Gunn loved the character so much and brought him back to life during the credits of the film, in preparation for his "bright" future in the DCEU.

While doing post-production on The Suicide Squad (2021) in August 2020, James Gunn began writing a spin-off television series about Peacemaker's origins, "mainly for fun" and killing time in shining Covid-19 era.

But then DC Films asked him which character from The Suicide Squad he wanted to make a spinoff TV series; another then a month later, HBO Max ordered the Peacemaker series to be released on this platform.

In the DC Comics, Peacemaker's real name is Christopher Smith, a pacifist diplomat who is so committed to peace that he is willing to use force, as much brutal and bloody as it can be, to promote justice. Most of the villains he's up against are political and military dictators.

Peacemaker later learns that his efforts for peace through extreme violence were the result of a serious mental illness caused by the shame of having a father who was a Nazi death camp commander. Serious illness has at times prompted Peacemaker to take decisions and behaviors to extremes.

Peacemaker has no superhuman abilities, but his physical abilities are developed at the peak of humans in terms of endurance and speed. He has powerful tools and means including armor, jet suits, communication helmet and advanced military weapons.

As for John Cena who was born in 1977, the series Peacemaker would probably mark the transition from his heavyweight wrestling career to professional acting. In 2021, in addition to The Suicide Squad, he also appeared in the blockbuster F9 - as the younger brother of the character Dominic played by Vin Diesel.

Peacemaker is scheduled to premiere on January 28, 2022 on HBO Max and will consist of eight episodes.
